Mike Pearson…

I never knew that about the freezer paper! Well, I’m just an amateur ;)

woohoo!  mike you are the winner of the fat quarter bundle of the entire line of cocoon by valori wells!

i’ll be emailing you shortly…from quilt market… :)

“this little piggy’s going to market…”

yep…that’s right!  i am going to quilt market…can you hear me squealing from here?  i am jumping up and down in my seat right now i am so excited and that i finally get to share it with you!!

this will obviously be my first time attending and it will be a very quick trip but it is one that i just couldn’t pass up…for a couple of reasons.  do you remember when my kiddos were in a photo shoot for westminster lifestyle fabrics?  {you can find the post here}

weeeelll…that little lady is going to be on their booth poster, the little man made the cover of their catalog and they both are on an inset page! can we say…eeekkkkk?!  and as if that isn’t enough, i had the special privilege of being asked to make 2 samples for their booth.  see…i just couldn’t miss this one…

westminster asked me to make a flannel night gown out of heather bailey‘s freshcut flannel.  the flannel is oh so soft.  the pattern was by  mccall  and i can’t remember the number right now, oops!  but it was an easy pattern to make.  {please forgive me that my picture isn’t great…}

a little pin embellishment so that it could be moved once they fit the gown on the mannequin…

my second project was to make a sewing machine cover.  i had some freedom here to be able to showcase the new line of fabric, chicopee, by denyse schmidt that is coming out in august.  i went with making half hexies and i have to say that it was a very simple way  to make them.  westminster gave me the measurements of the sewing machine they were taking {which is smaller than mine} and i essentially made it like a mini quilt with binding and ties.  i quilted it by stitching in the ditch because i wanted the fabric to shine, not the quilting.

i know that some people have made the ties with ribbon but i chose to make my own ties.

and i loved this little daisy flower on one of the pieces of fabric…

that i had to replicate it and make it into a pin.

i can’t wait to see them in the booth…i’m sure that i’ll need to be pinched just to make sure that it is real.  ;)

my plans were made last weekend at the last minute and i’ll only be staying for 24 hours because my little lady has her dance recital that i just didn’t have the heart to miss.  so yes, this will be a quick trip and yes, i will be exhausted physically, mentally and emotionally.  but i know that it will be worth every single one of the 1440 minutes that i am there.  i’ll see you next week with all that happened when “this little piggy went to market…”

don’t forget that today is the last day of my giveaway so make sure that you enter.  i will announce the winner on friday…

“stringing along…again…”

i had until may 15th to get out my last 2 april “string me along…again” bee blocks.  they were out of here by may 14th…whew…just under the deadline but not without lessons learned.  :)

korie had us make 2 herringbone blocks from this tutorial.  when i got her fabric and saw the block i fell hard!  i loved everything about her fabric and her block choice…so i cranked out her blocks really quickly.  they came together beautifully…so i thought.  see…when i get really excited,  sometimes i can get way ahead of myself.  :)  and that is exactly what happened…

i thought, “i’ve got this no problem” and didn’t read the entire tutorial to see that each side of the block had to be made opposite of one another.  i then had 2 sides going the same direction…seam ripper to the rescue {what would i do without that handy little tool?}  once that was figured out, they really did come together beautifully…seams were matching perfectly and there were no 2 fabrics alike within each block.  yay!

then the tutorial said to make sure that you use your 6.5″ x 24″ ruler to square up the blocks.  {i have a 6″ x 24″ and a 6.5″ x 24″ ruler…do you see where i’m going with this?}  my eyes totally told me that i had the 6.5″ x 24″ ruler and so i cut {sad thing is that i even measured twice!}.  oops!  the blocks final measurement was 11.5″ x 12.5″…definitely not right!  ugh!  lessons learned:  read all directions and double check my rulers…

i decided to take a step back for a bit…worrying that i wouldn’t be able to find the fabric online to be able to correct my mistake.  after a couple of weeks, i finally decided to take another stab at it and realized that i didn’t need to find anymore fabric.  between the scraps from the previous 2 blocks and that korie was so sweet to send us quite a bit of fabric, i was able to lay out 2 more blocks.  and this time i went especially slooow.

now, korie unfortunately doesn’t have as many scraps as she might have had i done them correctly the first time but…she does have 2 more blocks that she might be able to use on the back.

my giveaway ends on friday…hurry and go enter…

“i’m going to camp too…”

one of my goals has been to practice and perfect my handstitching…

but other than binding my quilts, i really don’t sit down and take the time to do much handstitching.  so when i heard about rachel at stitched in color hosting a “summer camp” on nothing but handstitching, i jumped in.  i have high hopes for this summer…kids playing and i’m stitchin’.  :D

and then there is the accountability thing…but katie at there & back took care of that for me {and you}.  she’ll be hosting a linky party on her blog starting this friday for all the handstitchy goodness out there, with “the handmade parade.”

There and Back

i hope to see you there…

there are only a couple days left in my giveaway

“summertime…”

“summertime, summertime, sum, sum, summertime…” {try not to get that tune stuck in your head today ;) }

when jennifer at ellison lane asked if i would create something for her “summer sewing contest” blog hop…i ‘hopped’ all over it.

i grew up on the beaches of north carolina…so i’m a beach girl at heart and to say that i love summertime is an understatement!  summer = fun…sand between your toes, sun-kissed skin, splashes in the pool, reading good books and fun dates…

i was inspired to design and create something new with fun bright colors that remind me of summer.  what girl doesn’t love a new sassy clutch?  whether you’re going on a hot date with your significant other, a much needed girls night out or just want to feel sassy…a clutch definitely adds a punch to your outfit.

thank you to jennifer for hosting this fantastic blog hop and contest…it was so much fun to stretch myself and design something new.

don’t forget to check out everyone else on the blog hop…i know that you’ll be inspired by all of the talent to create something new and fresh for your summer adventures!
